I’m primarily a guitarist, but these days most of my music involves some combination of guitars, computers, and electronics. My influences range from Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello to Air, Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk, William Orbit, and other beat-oriented and synth-oriented artists.
Here a few of the best tracks I’ve recorded over the last several years. I’ll be adding more stuff here as time goes on.
Fascinoma
Except for the drum loops, everything on this 2002 track is of guitar origin. All of the sounds that seem to be synthesizers are actually stacked, looped guitars created on the Electrix Repeater and run through filter and delay units also made by Electrix. It’s a knob-twirling extravaganza! This is a live, DJ-style mix of a four-track Repeater loop. » Download this track
Parallax
Same techniques as above, this time applied to a darker, nastier-sounding loop. » Download this track
City of Quartz
A studio track from 2003. Somewhat reminiscent of Air and William Orbit. A few voice samples are layered over the top, including an excerpt from an interview with Don DeLillo that was streamed on the New York Times website a few years ago. » Download this track
Zero Sum
A studio track from 1999. I used an Ebow and a Digitech Whammy pedal to create the swooping octave shifts in the first solo, about halfway through the track; I used an Ebow and a wah-wah pedal for the growly, synthlike solo in the progtastic final section. » Download this track
Trained Assassin
A studio track from 2001. This is sort of a futuristic spy theme. My then-girlfriend lent her voice for the whispered sample at the beginning. Once again, the solo is Ebowed electric guitar run through a wah-wah pedal. » Download this track
